TeX Collection 2005 by DANTE, Lehmanns Fachbuchhandlung, and TUG

TeX Collection 2005 contains five TeX products on a single DVD.

proTeXt

proTeXt is a TeX distribution for Microsoft Windows. It provides an easy installation even for less experienced users.

The distribution is based on Christian Schenk's MiKTeX with additional tools:

proTeXt guides the installation via a PDF document (requires Acrobat Reader), which provides clickable links to install the various components, along with explanations.

By starting Setup.exe in the protext directory of the DVD you can choose between an English, French, Spanish, German and Polish installation guide.

Note: Under some circumstances, Metafont will fail to create PK files for fonts after a fresh installation or an update of MiKTeX packages. This means, that for example YAP may warn you about failed font generation and these fonts will be missing in preview. This problem is related to fonts in Metafont format, only. Fonts in PostScript Type 1 are not affected. To resolve the problem, please refer to protext/font-creations-fail.html.
MacTeX

MacTeX is a TeX distribution based on gwTeX and XeTeX with a simple installation and a few extra applications: TeXShop, i-Installer, BibDesk, and Excalibur.

ConTeXt

ConTeXt, is a system for typesetting documents based on TeX and MetaPost. It can be used for converting documents coded in TeX format as well as documents coded in XML into high quality PDF. The DVD contains documentation and files for ConTeXt. Under Windows context/cstart.bat will start the SciTE editor thus providing an editing environment for ConTeXt. The normal SciTE keybindings apply and there are additional bindings (see menus) for TeX related actions. context/cdemo.bat also starts the SciTE editor and additionally opens a few demo ConTeXt files.

Notice: Some virus scanners (notably BitDefender) claim to find a virus named Trojan.Agent.EZ in the Windows executable context/usr/local/context/tex/texmf-mswin/bin/texmfstart.exe. This message is wrong, there is no virus in that file!
CTAN

CTAN, the Comprehensive TeX Archive Network, is a worldwide set of Internet servers making TeX software available. The DVD contains a snapshot of German CTAN node dante.ctan.org from November 2005. The snapshot is located in DVD's directory ctan. You may find further information in ctan/README.HTML.

Notice:
  • Some virus scanners claim to find a virus named BAT.Silly.B.gen in file ctan/macros/generic/cptex/tex8.bat. This message is wrong, there is no virus in that file!
  • Some virus scanners (notably BitDefender) claim to have found a virus named Trojan.Agent.EZ in the tar archive ctan/sites/jp/ptex-win32/current/context.tar.gz in the file bin/texmfstart.exe. As already mentioned in the ConTeXt section above, this is wrong.
TeX Live

TeX Live is a ready to run TeX-System for Linux/Unix and Mac OS X.

TeX Live is based on Web2C and teTeX with extensions. You may either run TeX Live directly from DVD or install it on your hard disk. The TeX Live system is located in directory texlive. Please run the script texlive/install-tl.sh in this directory to start an Unix installation and for installation under Windows run the program texlive/setup-win32/tlpmgui.exe.

Further information regarding TeX Live is available in the document texlive/readme.en.html. For other languages refer to texlive/index.html

Currently, TeX Live contains binaries for following systems:
