Comprehensive TeX Archive Network

A TUG Technical Council working group defined a common network archive for TeX software, the Comprehensive TeX Archive Network (CTAN). The backbone machines are the ftp servers at ftp.tex.ac.uk, ftp.dante.de and ctan.tug.org; these are mirrored worldwide and hold up-to-date copies of all the public-domain versions of TeX, LaTeX, Metafont and ancillary programs.

Several hosts offer a searchable index of CTAN files, try for example search engines in:

Germany, from Dante e.V.
Ireland, by Peter Flynn (this site will also find the mirror closest to you)
USA, by Norman Walsh.
