The TeX Users Group (TUG) was founded in 1980 for educational and scientific purposes, to provide an organization for those who have an interest in systems for text typesetting and font design, and are users of TeX and Metafont, Donald Knuth's revolutionary typesetting system.
TUG is run by and for its members and represents the interests of TeX users worldwide. If you use TeX in any of its forms, you may find it worthwhile to join TUG (please consider the benefits of TUG membership, which include four issues of TUGboat as well as the TeX Live CD-ROM).
What is TeX? What is Metafont? A bit of history.
